Inaugural Lecture: Prof James Minney

This talk will explore the complex and occasionally tense relationship between research and education in the context of higher education in the UK.

It will then consider how higher education can inform professional practice, drawing specifically on James’s extensive experience as both a translator and as a linguist working with professionals in the aviation industry. James will then aim to “close the loop” by illustrating how insights from professional practice can stimulate further research which, in turn, can inform teaching and learning in higher education.
