"The brain builds a narrative to steady us from moment to moment, but it is absolutely an illusion. There is no me, there is no you, and there is certainly no self."
EGTG begins its 2025 season proper with Nick Payne’s cerebral drama, Incognito. A total of six actors play over 20 characters across three interwoven stories in a play that looks at the nature of identity and how we are defined by what we remember.
1955, the USA: Thomas performs the autopsy of Albert Einstein. 1953, England: Henry undergoes pioneering brain surgery which changes his life. And in present day London: Martha, a clinical neuropsychologist, starts to make radically different choices after the collapse of her marriage. An exhilarating exploration of what it means to be human, Incognito premiered at HighTide Festival in April 2014 before going on to sell out runs at the Bush Theatre, London and the Manhattan Theatre Club off-Broadway.
This amateur production of “Incognito” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. on behalf of Samuel French Ltd.
