Details

Hailed as “one of the greatest singers” (Antonio Carlos Jobim), Joyce is a ground-breaking singer-songwriter who helped revolutionise Brazilian pop.

Joyce Moreno has written songs recorded by a host of other greats - Elis Regina, Maria Bethânia, Gal Costa, and more, racking up over 400 written pieces.

The legend of Brazilian music introduced a first-person feminine voice in MPB, accompanied by artful guitar mastery.

In the 90s, her music gathered new life in leftfield European clubs, where the likes of Gilles Peterson and Joe Davis helped instigate a new coming of Brazilian music, resulting in her albums from the 70s and 80s being reissued and her acclaim spreading further afield.

Presented by The Jazz Cafe.
