Karen Marshalsay: Scottish Harp Music

Details

One of Scotland’s leading harpers, Karen Marshalsay is one of the few musicians to specialist in all three Scottish harps - the warm-sounding modern gut-strung clarsach, its wire-strung Gaelic predecessor and the distinctive Bray harp. As well as giving solo concerts, Karen currently plays in Irish music legend Cathal McConnell’s trio and with the long-established Scottish folk group, the Whistlebinkies. She has also worked with Gaelic piping-singing authority, Allan MacDonald, appearing in his Herald Angel-winning concerts for Edinburgh International Festival, and her love of pipe music gives her playing superb richness. Her solo album, The Road to Kennacraig was produced by traditional music guru Robin Morton and received four stars from The Scotsman. Great tunes and the entertaining stories behind them feature in an intimate concert.
