How did the universe begin? Is backward time travel possible? And what weird and wonderful phenomena inhabit warped space and time? Nearly two decades in the making, The Warped Side of Our Universe marks the historic collaboration of Nobel Laureate Kip Thorne and award-winning artist Lia Halloran. It brings to vivid life the wonders and wildness of our universe’s “Warped Side”—objects and phenomena made from warped space and time, from colliding black holes and collapsing wormholes to twisting space vortices and down-cascading time. Through poetic verse and otherworldly paintings, the authors analyse the astrophysical discoveries and speculations of Thorne and colleagues through an epic narrative that asks some of the universe’s biggest questions. We are delighted to be joined by both authors to discuss these questions and their collaboration in The Warped Side of Our Universe at this very special event. Speakers: Kip Thorne—Nobel Prize–winning physicist and the Feynman Professor of Theoretical Physics Emeritus at Caltech, California and author of the best-selling books Black Holes & Time Warps and The Science of Interstellar. Lia Halloran—Award-winning artist who has exhibited widely in galleries and museums, Associate Professor of Art and Director of the Painting and Drawing Department at Chapman University, California. Copies of The Warped Side of the Universe , pre-signed by both authors, are available to order with a ticket, or to purchase on the night.
