Lee Jones Quartet - A Tribute to Wes Montgomery

We’re excited to welcome brilliant guitarist, Lee Jones, to Smokey Joe’s for our first gig of 2025.

Lee is now based in Australia and has become a big star on the jazz scene down under, but he’s back in the UK in January, he’s on tour, and he’s coming to see us! He’s promoting his new project, 'Way Out Wes', performing classic songs made famous by Wes Montgomery and celebrating the music of other greats from that era, including Wynton Kelly and Kenny Burrell. Lee made a huge impact on the UK jazz scene when he lived here, performing, recording and studying alongside Larry Coryell, Martin Taylor and Mike Stern. Since graduating from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Jazz Course in 2007, he has released seven solo albums, and in 2019 completed a PhD in music composition at the University of Salford. Lee’s most recent release received rave reviews, for his solo guitar project, 'A World Away'.

Joining Lee tonight, we have the awesome house band, with the flying socks and passion of Alex Steele on piano; the mighty groove merchant, Mike Cypher on drums; and the beautifully melodic, lyrical and effervescent, ‘Moyk’ Green on double bass, plus a couple of ​numbers featuring ​Kim Cypher on saxophone.
