María Dueñas & Alexander Malofeev

Details

An inspired collaboration illuminates works by Karol Szymanowski, Claude Debussy and César Franck.

Maria Dueñas and Alexander Malofeev are one of the most inspired pairings in the recital world. Their ability to communicate the very soul of the music they play, and their joy in collaboration, are perfect for this passionate programme of music by Karol Szymanowski, Claude Debussy and César Franck.

Szymanowski’s Violin Sonata (1904) is a work from his twenties, full of youthful vigour as well as great tenderness. By contrast, Debussy’s Sonata was composed in 1917, a year before his death. Anarchic as ever, he manages to dismantle convention in the most charming way.

Franck’s famous Sonata (1886) is a joyous celebration. Written to mark the marriage of its first soloist, the final movement sees the performers chasing each other around the score in a flurry of wedding bells.
