Matt Carmichael is a Scottish saxophonist whose music blends his love of jazz, folk and singer-songwriters. As an artist, he’s drawn to the deep emotive connection of music, and some of his major influences include Duke Ellington, The Gloaming, Adrianne Lenker, Bon Iver, Keith Jarrett, Ben Webster, Brad Mehldau, and John Coltrane.

“Compelling”, “striking”, and “uplifting” are just some of the press accolades for Matt's irresistible blend of lyrical jazz & lilting folk melodies, and his star is rising thanks to the new album, Marram, released on Edition Records.

Dancing with Embers’ is the upcoming album which will be previewed at Celtic Connections, with a line up of Matt Charmichael - saxophone, Fergus McCreadie - piano, Charlie Stewart - fiddle, Chris Amer - Guitars, Ali Watson - Bass, and Stephen Henderson - drums.
