The acclaimed Lark Piano Trio met as students at the RCS, winning the prestigious Governor’s Prize for chamber music. Their programme is built round Tchaikovsky’s monumental Piano Trio, completed on a truly grand scale in 1880 in memory of composer and teacher Nikolai Rubinstein. It turned out to be a key work in Russian musical history, inspiring other composers like Rachmaninov who wrote his own trio in memory of Tchaikovsky. The Lark Trio have a passion for unearthing hidden treasures for piano trio. They include Schumann’s delightful Canonic Studies and American composer Jennifer Higdon’s Color Through, full of lyrical ardour and dynamic energy.
