Moving On and Looking Back

Details

Son: "That first solo bus journey…" Mum: "…was an absolute bloody nightmare! Like giving birth – except with a number 63 double-decker involved!"

They say that when you’ve met one autistic person, you’ve met one autistic person – because autism is a spectrum.

However, it does seem that many of those on the Spectrum experience greater levels of anxiety than those who aren’t. This heightened anxiety comes into play when the autistic person is faced with ‘transition’ – from home to independent living, school to college or university, not working to working. ‘Moving On’ is about all that.

Should Gemma, guest on daytime TV show ‘Stick or Twist?’, stay at home or risk leaving Sheffield for University elsewhere? How will lager-loving ‘neuro’, JJ, cope with starting university where the overwhelming majority of students are autistic and he’s the odd one out?

Spectrum Theatre, Sheffield, an integrated group of 18 – 80+ year olds, half of whom are on the Spectrum, present their engaging, thought- provoking exploration of all this. Then in the second half of the evening, we will be singing a number of songs from our last three original musicals – ‘Strike!’, ‘Sanctuary’ and ‘A Christmas Carol’.
