Nitai Hershkovits

An Israeli pianist with Moroccan/Polish heritage who has worked extensively in New York, Nitai Hershkovits’ piano playing has fascinating, broad influences.

Described as a ‘ genuine prodigy ’ by BBC Music, Nitai works with the likes of Avishai Cohen and Kurt Rosenwinkel and is a charismatic performer with a strong voice and musical vision. He is unusual in that he studied jazz as a foundation and came to classical music later. The Guardian describes Nitai as ‘ Reminiscent of a silky-toned old piano swinger such as the late Hank Jones ’, intertwining bliss and melancholy with skillful freedom.

For this first-time appearance at Watermill Jazz Nitai will be playing music from his recent solo album on the ECM label, Call on the Old Wise .
