The Customs House and ThickSkin are delighted to present Only The Beginning…

The game of football is quite unsuitable for females and should not be encouraged.

(FA Committee, 1921 before banning the women’s game for almost 50 years.)

Against the backdrop of a crucial game for the Lionesses, a grassroots team in the North East are waiting to hear their fate. Money for the girls’ team is running out, their third-hand strips smell of mould and they play on a pitch without goalposts.

The players train in the hope that the team will continue but after an incident with a side-line dad, their coach is struggling and has started to forget why she found the beautiful game so beautiful. For all of them, there is so much more than goals at stake.

This brand new play is a love-letter to women’s football and a round of applause to the coaches, players and parents whose unwavering passion powers the grassroots game.

Following a three night run at The Customs House, we are very excited to be taking Only The Beginning… to the following venues in South Tyneside:

The Unionist Social Club: 6 – 7 November, 7pm

South Shields Football Club: 8 November, 7pm

Jarrow Hall: 9 November, 2pm

Perth Green CA: 10 November, 2pm
