Details

An exhibition curated with our group of visually- impaired participants. Over the last three years, we have been working with a group of people who are blind or visually-impaired. The work began with and still includes detailed descriptive tours of Fruitmarket exhibitions and has developed to include monthly creative workshops led by visually-impaired artists working with sighted artists. We experiment with art materials, equipment and techniques to test out what is accessible and enjoyable for each participant; visual impairment awareness and audio description training for all our staff; and insights into how we can ensure visually-impaired visitors can get the most out of our exhibitions.

This exhibition celebrates the work of the group. It includes art made by them in an installation that seeks to offer insights into what it is like to approach art as a visually-impaired visitor. The exhibition is interactive, and includes examples of the ‘touch boxes’ we now produce for every exhibition. Information Assistants trained by group leaders Kirin Saeed and Louise Fraser are on hand to provide visual descriptions and guide sighted and visually-impaired visitors through the art on display.
