Smuggling, Booze, Gangsters and Winchester College!

Hamble hides its lawless edge today, but its maritime roots have included battles of wits (and more) with the Excise Men. Secret tunnels and clandestine moonlit trysts with muffle-hooved pack animals have all played a part. In more modern times it was also a favoured place to escape to when things got too hot in London for the Kray twins.

• Meet at Hamble Square Carpark by the Golden postbox and bring appropriate clothing and footwear • Tickets MUST be booked in advance as places are limited • Tickets are non-refundable unless tour is cancelled (minimum number is 4) • Tour lasts approximately 90 minutes • There is one hill which wheelchairs may find steep. Pushchairs will manage this. The walk is paved or tarmac for its entirety.
