Details

Julian of Norwich is rightly known as the ‘mother of English prose’, the first woman we know of to write a book in English.

But for many of us today, some aspects of her life can seem strange – her enclosed life as an anchoress, her visions and her mystical writing. This tour will explore what we know about Julian’s life, and her place in medieval society and religious life.

It will look at the possible points of contact Julian may have had with the cathedral. And – we’ll explore whether or not Julian actually had a cat!

This tour will begin in the cathedral and end with an optional walking tour to St Julian’s Church and Julian’s cell.

The tour starts at 10:15am on Saturday 3rd August and lasts approximately 90 minutes.

Meet inside the main visitor entrance to the cathedral, the Hostry.

Our tours primarily take place on the flat, within the cathedral and cloister, but there may be some short flights of steps as we make our way round the building. There are usually plenty of opportunities to sit down during the tour.

Tickets costs just £5.00 plus a small booking fee.

Please note that tickets for specialist tours are non-refundable.
