Step back in time to the Victorian era, inspired by fetes held by Sir Harry and Lady Georgina Vernon. The couple held a fete in June every year for Hanbury village to attend. The gardens will be transformed into a summer fete style experience, with a riot of bunting, bell tents, straw bales, and giant Victorian characters.

Get ready to play as you explore each activity area throughout the gardens. Challenge your family to fun competitions including sack racing, wheelbarrow racing and egg & spoon races on a racetrack, and play traditional fayre games including coconut shy, hoopla, and ball in the bucket on the Orangery Lawn.

Dance around the giant maypole in the Front Park, dress up as historic characters and put on your own show, and get your heart pumping with games of football, badminton, and cricket.

There are also activities for young children to enjoy in the toddler play area, including building blocks, rocker bikes, balance boards and a sensory table.

Join a storytelling session on Mondays and Wednesdays, or make your own friendship bracelet on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Have your face painted everyday from Tuesday 30 July - Friday 6 September (excluding Friday 9 August, Thursday 22 August, and Saturday 24 August).

Join leading circus skills teaching company Shooting Stars for circus skills workshops on Sundays (excluding Sunday 4 August) and Wednesday 7 August.

Summer of Play is sponsored by Starling Bank.
