A covetous Queen, an untameable beast, and two lovers trapped on opposite sides of the war.
Based on the epic ancient myth of the Táin bó cúailnge, Táin is a storytelling show about blood magic, trickery, and love in the mythic age of Ireland.
Set against a backdrop of shadow and scored with a mixture of traditional and electronic music, young Edinburgh storytellers Mark Borthwick and David Hughes put new meat on the Táin’s ancient bones, exploring masculinity, tenderness, and right relationship with the land.
SCOTSMAN ★★★★ “a full-blooded and enriching new version of an old folk tale.”
ALL EDINBURGH THEATRE ★★★★ “an intimate, immersive, compelling tag-team rendition of the Táin that feels full and complete in its short runtime.”
SKINNY ★★★★ “Táin is an action-packed folkloric hour of battle, magic and music.” “Whether thanks to its spirited tellers or the shortbread and whiskey they serve at the beginning, the show leaves a sweet, homely aftertaste balanced with the bitterness of battle.”
PETER CHAND: "Some stories beg to be told. Others demand it. Táin blasts into your imagination, and makes the Epic both personal and contemporary at the same time. Steeped in myth, David Hughes and Mark Borthwick work seamlessly blending story and electro rhythm to create a story truly for our times."
