Details

Over the past ten years, Loud Poets have been showcasing and celebrating the power of poetry and spoken word performance. Their influence extends all over Scotland and beyond. As one of the company’s directors and leading lights, an academic as well as a practitioner, Dr Ailes is our perfect guide to ‘loud’ poetry. With explanations illustrated by performances, this will be an entertaining and enlightening pre-Christmas session like no other.

Katie Ailes

Katie is a poet, producer, educator, and researcher focusing on performance poetry. Since 2015, Dr Ailes has worked with I Am Loud Productions to coordinate hundreds of Loud Poets spoken word events, videos, and other projects, and she currently serves as their Education and Access Director. In 2023 she was the Poet in Residence at Glastonbury Festival. Katie’s PhD focused on the performance of authenticity in contemporary UK spoken word events.
