The Coiners in Halifax - The true story of the Gallows Pole

The Cragg Vale Coiners came from up the Calder Valley, but many significant events in their story took place in Halifax itself. We visit the location of King David Hartleys arrest, the site of the 1769 Exciseman's murder, hear the tale of the arrested Constable, learn about the last coiner buried in Halifax, and consider the bodies which hung on a gallows on Beacon Hill - for years. This is a linear walk of 3 hours. Good footwear is recommended, mainly on solid surfaces. Nothing too strenuous. An escort will be available to walk back to the start. Suitable for dogs on leads. Suitable for mobility scooters.
