The Ladies of Juliana presented by SweptUnder Productions

Six women, exiled from home. Sent to a new land. Powerful men, oppressed women, and a journey that takes longer than expected, and weathers more than storms. The Ladies of Juliana is a new play, devised and written by the company, set on an 18th century ship that transported female convicts to the penal colonies of Australia. SweptUnder Productions are a company of emerging female artists whose mission is to create new theatre giving power to marginalised women and their stories and to ask: What happens when women close their legs and open their mouths?  Although rooted in history, it's a contemporary tale meshing the past to the politics of the present, highlghting how women’s bodies and rights remain a battleground to this day.
