University Jazz Band

Following a string of sold-out concerts, University Jazz Band returns to celebrate the music and artistry of legendary jazz bassist, composer and bandleader Charles Mingus.

Mingus’ innovative style blends elements of swing, bebop, gospel, classical and the avant-garde. In addition to his virtuosity and dedication to musical excellence, Mingus’ complex inner life and social activism are often reflected in his work.

Performing music from across his career, from the iconic ‘Moanin’ to the rebellious energy of ‘Better Get It in Your Soul’, University Jazz Band brings you the raw, unfiltered spirit of one of jazz’s most revolutionary composers.
