Award winning tenor Daniel Thomson and Sam Brown, “the Eric Clapton of the lute”, present Facets of Time, a dramatic performance based around Elizabethen England’s most iconic artists, William Shakespeare and John Dowland. Time was for the renaissance a central fascination: this performance sees Old Time evoked in songs of love and stoicism, nightmarishly scrambled by Macbeth, and vanquished by Elizabeth I.
Originally from Melbourne, Australia, Daniel Thomson is a graduate of Basel’s Schola Cantorum, known for his expressive text based performance. He performs widely with major groups across the UK, Europe and Australia. daniel-thomson.com
Sam Brown is a graduate of London’s Royal College of Music and one of the leading chordophonists of his generation, known for his sensitive interpretation of Elizabethan music. He has performed across Europe, China and Kenya. sambrownmusic.org
Since their first meeting at Emma Kirkby’s kitchen table, Sam and Daniel have performed widely across the UK and developed an impeccable ensemble marked by a sincere love and understanding of lute song.
