We are delighted to welcome RNCM concerto competition winner, Andy Deng, to perform Prokofiev's technically formidable 2nd piano concerto.

Described as a “composer of uncommon gifts and unusual methods” in a New York Times profile and as “fearless” by NPR, Grammy-nominated Anna Clyne is one of the most in-demand composers today, working with orchestras, choreographers, filmmakers, and visual artists around the world. www.annaclyne.com [//www.annaclyne.com] Composer's Notes The opening to This Midnight Hour is inspired by the character and power of the lower strings of L'Orchestre national d'Île de France. From here, it draws inspiration from two poems – one by Charles Baudelaire and another by Juan Ramón Jiménez. . Whilst it is not intended to depict a specific narrative, my intention is that it will evoke a visual journey for the listener.

Sibelius's 2nd symhony, with its grandiose finale, completes the programme.
